Work Groups

Our goal with working groups is to create focused teams to accomplish meaningful tasks that will lead to a stronger town.

Housing + Land use

The housing and land use work group will focus on city-level reforms to unlock greater access to housing and small businesses.

Waco, like most American cities, has an outdated zoning that often keeps us from building the kind of places we love. Under our current regulations, most of Downtown would be illegal to rebuild. That’s despite it being our most loved, photographed, and valuable part of town.

The city is already taking a second look at many of these rules, and we’re going to engage them in making change happen. We’ll be looking at:

  • The downtown form-based code (more info here)

  • Bringing back the starter home by allowing smaller, more affordable lots

  • Legalizing dense residential use in existing commercial zones

  • …and so much more!

Transportation + Mobility

The transportation and mobility work group will be focused on making changes to our cities current and future pedestrian and transportation capital projects. With a focus on small wins these are example tasks the group will work on.

  • Connecting up bike lanes to have a cohesive network.

  • Improving existing and future sidewalks.

  • Advocating for increasing pedestrian and transit funding in the cities annual budget.

  • Adding bike racks to participating businesses.

  • Sidewalk and bike lane cleanups
